The Washburn Lady Blues coasted to a season opening 97-61
victory in Lee Arena Saturday night.
Behind junior forward Crystal Walker, the Lady Blues bolted
to a 16-4 lead to open the game on consecutive break layups.
Washburn finished the opening half with a 22-of-37 shooting
performance from the field (59.5%), including Walker's 19 points on
9-of-11 shooting.
Lora Westling got hot in the second half, finishing with
13 in the second and 19 in the game on 7-of-14 shooting from the field.
Walker finished with a career-high 24 points and recorded her third
double-double of her career by adding 10 rebounds.
Washburn's 97-point total was its highest since a 120-86
victory at Missouri-St. Louis during the 1990-91 season.
Kristy Chapman added 16 points and Gosia Czarnecka 10
for the Lady Blues, who play host to Baker University 7 p.m. in Lee
Arena Tuesday night.
