Washburn LogoLady Blues top Baker in seaon opening win

TOPEKA — The Washburn Lady Blues topped Baker University 70-48 in their season opener in Lee Arena Saturday evening. The win was WashburnÍs third straight in season openers and third straight under head coach Ron McHenry.

Baker kept the game close early on before Washburn started a 12-3 run capped by Carissa GoegleinÍs 3-point play to make it 16-7. Lora Westling made six of WashburnÍs last eight points to give the Lady Blues a 32-20 lead at the half.

Crystal Walker led Washburn with 15 points and eight rebounds, while Goeglein and Westling added 14 points apiece. Ineke Ingram came off the bench with eight points and six rebounds.

Washburn is back in action 7 p.m. Nov. 29 in an exhibition game against South Australian Sport Institute in Lee Arena. All Lady Blue games can be heard live on 580 WIBW with Bruce Steinbrock and Mark Elliot calling the action.
