TOPEKA — The Washburn Lady Blues topped in-state foe Benedictine College 65-49 in Lee Arena Tuesday night.

The Lady Blues fell behind by as many as five early on and trailed 17-16 with 7:40 left in the opening half. Crystal Walker's jumper just before the buzzer capped an 18-8 run to make it 34-25 at intermission.

Benedictine hung with Washburn and pulled within 54-46 with 8:46 to play on Emily Smith's basket. Washburn responded with an 11-0 run over the next six minutes to put the Ravens away.

Carissa Goeglein led the way for Washburn with 16 points and eight rebounds, while Dani McHenry added a career-high 12 points on 5 of 5 shooting from the field. Crystal Walker scored 10 points and seven rebounds. Alison Garrett had nine points and five assists.

The Lady Blues had a commanding 47-26 rebounding edge over Benedictine, which was led by Topeka native Emily Smith's 17 points and five rebounds.

The Lady Blues are back in action 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon against Southwestern Oklahoma.
