Blues get two regional wins at Drury Classic

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. The Washburn Lady Blues swept a pair of regional
games at the Drury Winter Classic. Washburn opened with a 79-73 win
over host Drury Friday night and followed with a 64-54 win over Cameron
(Okla.) Saturday.
In the victory over Drury, Washburn canned 8 of 10 free
throws in the last two minutes of the ballgame to hand Drury (6-1) its
first loss of the season. Kristy Chapman hit six straight free throws
late in the game.
Crystal Walker extended Washburn's lead to 41-31 at the
half with a 30-foot jumper at the buzzer. Walker finished with 24 points
and nine points to lead the way. Carissa Goeglein had 19 points, while
Alison Garrett had a career-high 11 points and Lora Westling added a
career-high 11 rebounds.
In the win over Cameron, Washburn improved to 4-0 despite
a poor shooting performance in the opening half to lead 27-26 at the
break. Washburn improved in the second half by making 15 of 28 shots
to shoot 53 percent.
Walker led the way again with 19 points and seven rebounds
to earn Drury Classic's Most Valuable Player honors. Kristy Chapman
canned six 3-pointers to finish with 18 points, while Goeglein finished
with seven points and made the all-tournament team.
The Lady Blues are back in action 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night
against Benedictine College.
