TOPEKA — The No. 24 Washburn Lady Blues outlasted Southwestern Oklahoma State 69-59 in Lee Arena Saturday night.

After leading by as many as 11 in the opening half, Washburn saw its lead close to 52-51 with 7:33 left in the game on a 3-point play by Southwestern guard Ashlee Hamar.

The Lady Blues responded with an 11-0 run to pull away and take a 63-51 lead on Bethany McGraw's 3-pointer at the top of the key with the shot clock winding down. The Lady Bulldogs never got within eight after McGraw's basket.

The Lady Blues opened with a 17-7 lead after steals by their reserves led to easy baskets. April Roadhouse got a steal and a layup and Ineke Ingram scored after Lora WestlingÍs steal to give Washburn a lift early. Southwestern Oklahoma State pulled within 33-29 at the half by hitting 5 of 6 3-pointers.

Carissa Goeglein led Washburn with 18 points and 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. Crystal Walker and Kristy Chapman added 14 and 10 points respectively. Hamar led Southwestern Oklahoma State with 15 points.

Washburn, which improved to 6-0 for the first time since 1997-98, travels to Boca Raton, Fla. for the Lynn Classic 4 p.m. Tuesday and will take on Florida Southern.
