named to All-South Central Region first team

TOPEKA Crystal Walker, a 6-foot senior forward
from Osawatomie, Kan., was named to the Daktronics-CoSIDA All-South
Central Region first team Tuesday morning. Walker was fifth in the MIAA
in scoring with 15.8 points a game, sixth in rebounding (6.9 rpg) and
fourth in field goal percentage (49.1 percent). She also shared MIAA
Most Valuable Player honors and was the Sonic MIAA Tournament MVP.
Walker scored 19 of her 21 points in the second half
of the Sonic MIAA Tournament championship game Sunday in Washburn's
71-60 win over Missouri Western. She has scored 1254 points and grabbed
618 rebounds in her career, while scoring 474 points and grabbing 206
rebounds this season.
On Jan. 18 earlier this season Walker became the 16th
Washburn player to reach the 1,000 point plateau by netting 22 of her
24 points in the second half of a comeback win against Central Missouri
State in Lee Arena. She also grabbed her 500th rebound against Northwest
Missouri State on Jan. 15.
Washburn (27-3), which won its second MIAA regular season
and third MIAA Tournament title, opens the NCAA Division II South Central
Tournament as the No. 1 seed with an 8 p.m. game Friday against No.
8 seeded Midwestern State (21-8) in Lee Arena. The Lady Blues have won
11 straight games heading into the regional tournament, which they are
hosting for the first time since 1992-93.
