TOPEKA The Washburn Lady Blues pulled into a three-way tie
for first in the MIAA with a 65-57 win over Emporia State in Lee Arena
Wednesday night. The Lady Blues are tied with ESU and Missouri Western
at 12-3 in the MIAA.
The Lady Blues took an early 15-8 lead on Ineke Ingram's
layup with 11 minutes left in the opening half and maintained that margin
after Ingram's 3-point play with 9:17 to make it 20-13.
Emporia State responded with a 12-0 run capped by Kristy
McClain's 3-pointer with 5:47 left to make it 25-20 Emporia State. Alison
Garrett canned her second 3-pointer of the night with 2:23 left to help
the Lady Blues finish the half with a 7-1 run to take a halftime lead.
Washburn started the second half with a 20-6 run to take
a 47-32 after consecutive baskets by Carissa Goeglein with 9:12. Emporia
State pulled within 56-52 on Nicole Patry's 3-pointer with 1:02 left.
Bethany McGraw iced the game by making six straight free
throws in the final 39 seconds. McGraw made all nine free throws in
the second half.
Crystal Walker led the Lady Blues with 12 points and eight
rebounds, while Ingram finished with 11 points. Washburn outrebounded
ESU 38-29.
The Lady Blues will now host Pittsburg State on Saturday
at 5:30 p.m. in Lee Arena Saturday night.
