Blues beat Rockhurst in non-conference play

TOPEKA — The Washburn Lady Blues topped Heartland Conference foe
Rockhurst University 76-64 in Lee Arena Monday night.
After trailing at the half for the first time this season
33-31, Washburn went on a 23-5 run during the middle of the second half
to take its biggest lead of the game at 67-50 with 4:26 left on Ineke
Ingram's basket.
The two squads exchanged leads seven times in the first
half after Washburn jumped out early to a 7-2 edge. Amber Krumbholz
got the Lady Hawks going and led Rockhurst back with 10 of her 13 points
in the opening half.
Kristy Chapman brought the Lady Blues back with 13 of
her game-high 17 points in the second half and connected on 3 of 4 from
the field and 5 of 5 from the foul line in the second half.
Washburn owned the boards with a decisive 39-28 rebounding
edge. Crystal Walker and Carissa Goeglein joined Chapman in double figures
with 16 points apiece.
The Lady Blues are back in action 5:30 p.m. Wednesday
against Southwest Baptist in Lee Arena. Washburn has now won 16th straight
at home, which is the sixth longest streak in the nation.
