
Lady Blues route SBU with offensive
showcase in opening half

TOPEKA The No. 7 Washburn Lady Blues used a dominating performance
in the first half to beat Southwest Baptist 89-68 in Lee Arena Wednesday
night.
The Lady Blues opened up with a 22-4 lead that extended
to 35-9 with 6:22 left in the opening half when Ineke Ingram made a
layup. Alison Garrett's 3-pointer with 35 second left gave Washburn
its 51-20 halftime edge.
Southwest Baptist tried to respond, but couldn't pull
within 18, as Carissa Goeglein finished with a team-high 21 points and
eight rebounds to lead Washburn.
Crystal Walker added 17 points and 12 rebounds to post
her 12th career double-double, while Garrett had a career-high 14 points
and Ingram added 11 points. Washburn owned a commanding 47-30 rebounding
edge.
With the win Washburn moved to 12-0 and 3-0 in the MIAA.
The Lady Blues are tied for first in the MIAA with Emporia State, which
won 63-55 at Missouri Western Wednesday.
The Lady Blues are back in action 1:30 p.m. Saturday against
Missouri-Rolla in Lee Arena. Washburn has now won 17 straight at home,
which is the sixth longest streak in the nation.
