Blues add three more to basketball squad

Washburn women's basketball coach Ron McHenry has announced that three
more players will join the Lady Blues for the 2003-04 season. South
Plains College forward Carla Sintra, Paris Junior College forward Montoya
Whitfield and Dodge City High School guard Holly Henrichs.
CARLA SINTRA 6-1
F Goiania, Brazil/South Plains College
Carla Sintra, a 6-1 forward from Goiania, Brazil, played
the past two seasons at South Plains College in Levelland, Texas.
Sintra was an All-Western Junior College Athletic Conference
and All-Region V selection the past two seasons for the Lady Texans.
Averaged 10 points and six rebounds a game earned the Lady Texan Fighting
Heart Award as a freshman in 2001-02. Averaged 11.5 points and 6.8 rebounds
with 68 assists and 42 steals as a sophomore in 2002-03 to help the
Lady Texans to a 23-9 record. Also won the Lady Texan Rebounder Award
in 2002-03.
McHenry on Sintra:"Carla could be an impact
player in the MIAA. She is a very rounded player, who sees the floor
and has a great understanding of the game. Carla can do a number of
things to make us a better basketball team. She should be a fun one
to watch for our fans."
MONTOYA WHITFIELD 6-1
F/C Long Beach Calif./Paris Junior College
Montoya Whitfield, a 6-1 forward/center from Long Beach,
Calif., finished up her sophomore season at Paris Junior College in
2002-03. She averaged 8.8 points and 5.9 rebounds for Paris Junior College,
which went 20-12 in 2002-03.
A 1999 graduate of Long Beach Poly High School, where
she earn all-conference and team Most Valuable Player honors. She was
also named conference Defensive Player of the Year and a Top 100 Senior
in California.
McHenry on Whitfield:"Montoya gives us a player
who has shown that she can score inside and outside. She is very long
and athletic and will give us a different look from the inside position."
HOLLY HENRICHS 5-5
G Dodge City, Kan./Dodge City High School
Henrichs, a 5-5 guard, was a four-year starter at Dodge
City, where she was the teamÕs co-captain and earned first team all-conference
honors the past two seasons. She earned all-area Class 6A by the Hutchinson
News her senior year after averaging 8.8 points, 9.0 assists and 3.2
steals a game.
McHenry on Henrichs:"Holly is a player that
loves to play the game of basketball. She will develop into a strong
addition to the Lady Blues basketball program."
