Washburn women's basketball coach Ron McHenry has announced that Spring
Hill High School standout Megan Sullivan will join the Lady Blues next
season. Sullivan, a 6-1 center from Spring Hill, Kan., averaged 18 points
and 10 rebounds a game as a high school senior last season.
"Megan has good size and is very athletic. She should
be able to adapt very quickly to the college game," said Washburn
head coach Ron McHenry. "Megan played the post position in high
school but will play power forward in college."
Sullivan earned all-state honors at Spring Hill in 2002-03
and helped the Broncos to a 56-45 win over Hayden in the Kansas Class
4A High School State Tournament in Salina.
"Megan has been a huge part of a very successful
high school basketball program at Spring Hill. Being a part of so much
success is a great attribute to bring to our program,"said McHenry.
"Megan had many other offers and we are very excited she chose
Washburn University."
Sullivan earned all-league honors each of her four seasons
and was a second team Class 4A All--State selection by the Topeka Capital
Journal her junior and senior seasons. She also earned academic all-state
honors in 2003 and was an all-league selection in volleyball.
Sullivan is the ninth addition to the Lady Blues squad
for next fall. She joins Great BendŐs Cindy Keeley, Hayden High SchoolŐs
Anna Nimz, LarnedŐs Charlotte Dikeman, OsborneŐs Brooke Ubelaker and
Dodge CityŐs Holly Henrichs as freshman at Washburn next season. Oral
Roberts transfer Erin Menard will be a sophomore, while Carla Sintra
of South Plains College and Montoya Whitfield of Paris Junior College
will be juniors in 2003-04.
Washburn finished last season with a 30-4 record after
winning the MIAA regular season, Sonic MIAA Tournament and South Central
Regional titles to reach the NCAA Division II Elite Eight in St. Joseph,
Mo.
