Blues win MIAA home opener

TOPEKA The Washburn Lady Blues topped Truman State 85-57 in Lee
Arena Saturday night.
Washburn, which shot 50.9 percent from the field and
owned a 39-28 rebounding edge, improved to 10-0 and 2-0 in MIAA play,
while the Bulldogs fell to 5-5 and 1-1 in the MIAA.
After Truman pulled within 19-16 with 10:48 in the opening
half, the Lady Blues went on a 15-3 run to make it 34-19 on two free
throws at the 6:25 mark.
The Lady Blues finished the half with a 41-29 lead, led
by Kristy Chapman who canned 4 of 4 3-pointers for 12 points.
Washburn had another big run with a 12-0 spurt in the
second half, capped by Lora Westling's layup with 13:09 to play to extend
the lead to 59-36.
Crystal Walker led the Lady Blues with 22 points, while
Carissa Goeglein had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
The Lady Blues are back in action Monday 7 p.m. against
Rockhurst in Lee Arena.
