The Washburn Lady Blues used a solid defense effort to
defeat Benedictine College 68-41 in Lee Arena Saturday night.
The 41 points scored by the Lady Ravens is the fewest
by a Washburn opponent since a 93-26 blowout of Baker in the 1993-94
season opener. Benedictine shot 11 of 45 (24.4%) from the field.
Carissa Goeglein led the way for the Lady Blues, scoring
a career high 24 points on 9 of 15 shooting from the field, while Crystal
Walker added 10 points and 11 rebounds to record her fifth double-double
of the season.
Latasha Moore also scored 10 in her debut in a Lady Blue
uniform. Moore, a 5-10 transfer from Mississippi, canned her first three
shots including two 3-pointers.
Washburn is back in action 5:30 p.m. Wednesday night at
Lee Arena in the MIAA opener with No. 5 ranked Missouri Western. The
Griffons are 8-0 and ranked No. 1 in the South Central Regional Poll.
Washburn is No. 6 in the region.
