TOPEKA.- Crystal Walker's layup at the buzzer lifted the
Washburn Lady Blues to a 64-62 victory over the Pittsburg State Gorillas
Saturday night.
Walker, who scored a career-high 26 points, took a pass
near the free throw line and drove for her third straight basket down
the stretch for the Lady Blues. Walker tallied 16 points in the second
half and shot 10 of 14 from the field.
After trailing 32-30 at the half, Washburn opened the
second half with a 8-1 run to make it 38-33. The teams traded baskets
during the rest of the game, before Walker took control late.
The win was Washburn's first in seven attempts against
the Gorillas in Lee Arena and second win the in the last 12 meetings
in the series.
Walker recorded her eighth double-double of the season
by adding 12 rebounds, while Carissa Goeglein added 12 points and seven
rebounds.
Washburn is back in action 5:30 p.m. at St. Joseph, Mo.
Wednesday night against No. 2 Missouri Western. Western is also ranked
No. 2 in the South Central Region.
