ST. JOSEPH, MO - The Washburn Lady Blues fell to the No.
2 ranked Missouri Western State College Griffons 72-64 on the road.
The Lady Blues (13-5, 6-4 MIAA) led at the break 29 to
27, but Missouri Western (17-1, 9-1 MIAA) opened the second half with
a 11-3 run to take control of the game.
Carissa Goeglein led the Lady Blues with 20 points on
8 of 14 shooting. Crystal Walker scored 12 points.
Washburn shot 46 percent for the game and shot 51 percent
in the second half hitting 15 of 29 shots, however the Lady Blues were
hammered on the boards 35-27. Also in the second half the Griffons shot
19 of 22 from the free throw line compared to 3 of 6 for the Lady Blues.
For the game the Lady Blues were 8 of 13 and the Griffons were 24 of
29.
Up next for the Lady Blues is Truman State on Saturday
at 5:30 p.m. in Lee Arena. In the first meeting between these two teams,
the Bulldogs won 55-53 on Truman's Robyn Gerber nine-foot jumper in
the lane with under a second left to clinch the game.
