TOPEKA - The Washburn Lady Blues kept their recent roll
going with a 74-62 victory over Southwest Baptist Wednesday night in
Lee Arena.
Washburn, ranked No. 6 in the latest South Central Regional
poll, fell behind early but took a 27-14 lead with 8:48 left in the
first half on Crystal Walker's layup to cap a 13-0 run.
Southwest Baptist pulled within 40-38 early in the second
half, but the Lady Blues rolled behind Walker, who scored 16 points
on 7-of-11 shooting in the second half.
Walker led the Lady Blues with a career-high tying 26
points and seven rebounds, while Kristy Chapman and Carissa Goeglein
added 15 and 10 respectively. Washburn finished 34-of-65 (52.3%) from
the field.
The win was Washburn's ninth in the last 11 games and
gave Washburn its first sweep over Southwest Baptist since 1992-93.
The Lady Blues are back in action against Missouri-Rolla
5:30 in Lee Arena Saturday night.
