For the first time since the 1994-95 season, Washburn
won an opening round MIAA tournament game with a 65-52 win over Southwest
Baptist in Lee Arena Monday night.
The win snapped a six-game MIAA tournament losing skid
for the Lady Blues, who capped their ninth straight victory overall
and ninth in Lee Arena with the win.
Leading 40-37 with 14:14 to play, Washburn went on an
11-0 run capped by Carissa Goeglein's layup with 9:10 left to make it
51-37.
Goeglein led the way for Washburn with 19 points on 8-of-12
shooting from the field and nine rebounds, while Lora Westling came
off the bench with eight points and five assists.
