ST. JOSEPH, MO - The Washburn Lady Blues, playing in
their first NCAA Regional Tournament since 1994-95 fell in the quarterfinals
to Southeastern Oklahoma 63-50. The loss ended the Lady Blues' season
with a 23-7 record - an 10-win improvement over last season's 13-14
record. The 10-win turnaround was the second best single-season improvement
in school history.
The Lady Blues jumped out to a 13-8 lead, but the Lady
Savages would cut the lead and eventually take a 25-24 lead. Over the
next three minutes, Southeastern would go on a 11-2 run and take a 38-28
lead into the halftime break.
In the second half, the Lady Blues struggled from the
field hitting only 5 of 21 field goal attempts, not getting closer than
nine points with 13:18 remaining.
Junior Crystal Walker led the Lady Blues with 16 points.
Classmate Carissa Goeglein scored 12. Sophomore Lora Westling pulled
down a new career high eight rebounds, two more than her previous high.
It was also the final game for senior Jovanae St. Cyr
who scored four points and recorded three rebounds. Fellow senior Lindsey
Moddelmog was 1 of 1 from the field scoring two points and Sharina Watkins
was scoreless not taking a shot.
