Lady
Blues ink local all-stater to basketball letter of intent
Nov. 14, 2001
Washburn Lady Blues head basketball coach Ron McHenry
has announced the signing of Seaman High's Rebekah Mueller to a national
letter of intent Wednesday morning.
Mueller averaged 15.1 points a game last season as a
junior for Seaman and was named to the first team All-Class 5A, all-city
and All-Centennial League. She was also a member of the all-class all-state
team for the Seaman, which was runner-up in the 5A state tournament
last season.
In the state tournament, Mueller hit the game-winning
shot in the semifinals to beat McPherson 56-55 in overtime. She follwed
with a 21 point and 12 rebound performance in the championship against
Bishop Miege.
"Rebekah is one of the top players in the state
and one of the best ever in the city," said McHenry. "I have
watched her play for a long time and have seen her develop into a great
player; she can be a really special player.
"Rebekah is a great person and comes from a great
family. She is a great worker and will have an immediate impact for
us."
McHenry expects to sign at least two more players in
the early singing period, which ends next Wednesday.
