Lady Blues add three to squad

Washburn women's basketball coach Ron McHenry announced the addition of three players that will join the squad in 2005-06. Transfers Jessica Aebi (Abby) of Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, Amanda Holmes from Texas Christian University and Bojana Samardziska (BOY-ah-nah - SAM-ar-ZEE-ska) from the University of Nebraska will join the Lady Blues next fall.
Aebi, a 5-7 guard who will be a junior next fall, played one season at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M. She began her collegiate career at Southeast Missouri State, where she averaged 5.1 points a game in 2003-04. She was a 2003 all-state selection at Enid (Okla.) High, where she averaged 15 points and four assists a game as a senior.
Holmes, a 6-2 forward who will be a sophomore, played one season at TCU. She was a 2004 graduate of Hayden High School in Topeka, where she helped the Wildcats to a Class 4A state title and earned all-city and second team all-state honors.
Samardziska, a 6-4 post that will be a senior, played one season at Nebraska. She played two seasons at Colby Community College, where she scored 1038 points. She averaged 17.6 points, 9.4 rebounds and 3.1 blocks to earn second team All-Jayhawk West Conference and second team NJCAA All-Region VI honors as a sophomore in 2003-04. Samardizka is a native of Belgrade, Serbia & Montenegro.
Aebi, Holmes and Samardziska will join Salina Sacred Heart's Stephanie Wittman as newcomers to the 2005-06 squad. Whittman signed in the early period. The Lady Blues went 35-2 and won the school's first NCAA Division II title in 2004-05.
