No. 1 Lady Blues win top-20 battle with Jennies

TOPEKA -- The No. 1 ranked Washburn Lady Blues won its 26th straight game dating back to last season and improved its record to 7-0 with an 80-73 win over the No. 19 ranked Central Missouri Jennies, who fall to 6-2 on the season. The Lady Blues will be back in action on Wednesday, Dec. 14 when they take on Benedictine at 7 p.m. in Lee Arena followed by a showdown with No. 2 ranked Drury on Saturday, Dec. 18th in Lee Arena.
The Lady Blues trailed early as the Jennies would open up a five-point lead at 10-5 before the first media timeout. The score changed hands seven times in the first half with three ties before the Lady Blues would take a 37-35 lead into halftime.
Washburn would not trail in the second half as CMSU got no closer than 45-44 as the Lady Blues went on for the win. However with the Lady Blues up by 10 at 77-67 with 1:01 remaining, the Jennies cut the lead back to 77-73 with 37 seconds left as the Lady Blues hit three of their final for free throws and CMSU went 0 of 3 from the field leading to the seven-point Washburn win.
Brooke Ubelaker led Washburn with a game-high 27 points as she hit 10 of 14 attempts from the field, including 5 of 7 from 3-point land and both free throw attempts in 28 minutes of play. Her 27 points tied a season-high and was one shy of her career high.
Jennifer Harris had 20 points and Cindy Keeley had a new career-high with 13 points.
CMSU was led by Kara Rewers who had 15 points.
