No. 1 Lady Blues roll over Benedictine; to face No. 2 Drury Saturday night

TOPEKA - The No. 1 ranked Washburn Lady Blues shook off a sluggish start rolling to a 95-52 win over Benedictine setting up a one-versus-two showdown Saturday night in Lee Arena when the No. 2 ranked Drury Lady Panthers come to town. Last season, the Lady Blues topped Drury 64-53, who was the No. 1 ranked team in the nation at the time and Washburn entered the game as the No. 4 ranked team in the country.
Washburn trailed by three early 3:18 into the game, but quickly pulled away to build a three-point lead over the Lady Ravens, who are the No. 12 ranked team in NAIA Division II play. After Benedictine cut the lead to three at 27-24 with 6:15 to play in the first half, the Lady Blues finished the first stanza on a 21 to 6 run and never looked back.
In the second half, the Lady Blues built its lead to as many as 49 points as they shot a blistering 61 percent from the field in the second half hitting 19 of 31 shots, finishing with a 58 percent clip for the game.
Junior Brooke Ubelaker led the Lady Blues with a career-high 31 points. She hit 6 of 8 shots in the second half scoring 17 in the period. Jennifer Harris recorded her second double double of the season and the fourth of her career with 25 points and a career-best 12 assists. Also in double figures for Washburn was Jessica Aebi who notched new career-highs with 14 points and seven assists.
The Lady Blues recorded 15 blocks in the game with Bojana Samardziska recorded nine of them. The nine blocks in a single game is the most since the 1998 season and believed to be a new school record, however research is not complete on the single game block record.
The Lady Blues recorded 26 fast break points and 37 points off of 27 Lady Raven turnovers.
