TOPEKA - The No. 1 ranked Washburn Lady Blues won its 35th straight game and its 31st in a row in Lee Arena with a 95-49 win over Southwest Baptist. The 46-point win is the most lopsided win over the Lady Bearcats in the 30-game series history and the 11th straight win over SBU overall. Washburn returns to action on Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m. in Lee Arena as they play host to Pittsburg State.
Washburn (16-0, 5-0) led from start to finish building an 18-5 lead 4:14 into the game and never looked back as SBU cut the lead to 11 and not get closer the rest of the way as the Lady Blues took a 47-22 score into the break. Washburn shot a blistering 61 percent from the field in the first half hitting 19 of 31 attempts while limiting the Lady Bearcats (8-8, 1-5 MIAA) to 8 of 32 shooting from the field.
In the second half it was much the same as Washburn continued to roll building the lead to the final margin of 46.
Washburn had six players in double figures led by Cindy Keeley who scored a career-high 19 points on 7 of 10 shooting including a 4 of 5 performance from 3-point land. Bojana Samardziska recorded her first double double at Washburn with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Also in double figures were Jennifer Harris with 12, Amanda Holmes and Brooke Ubelaker with 11 and Jessica Mainz with 10.
SBU was paced by Casey Beavers and Livia Brito, each with 11.
Washburn finished the game shooting 58 percent from the field while SBU was held to 28 percent. Washburn also led on the boards as well outrebounding the Lady Bearcats 44 to 34 and forced 19 turnovers as well.
