KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The No. 1 Washburn Lady Blues won their opening game of the MIAA Tournament in convincing fashion with a 63-36 win over Truman State. With the win, the Lady Blues improve to 28-0 while Truman's season ends at 12-16.The win was the 47th in a row for the Lady Blues. The Lady Blues will take on Missouri Western at noon on Saturday.

Washburn led from start to finish leading by as many as 22 in the first half at two separate times en route to a 43-21 halftime lead.

The Lady Blues held the Bulldogs to 9 of 31 shooting from the field, while shooting 15 of 34 from the field for a 44 percent shooting clip.

In the second half, it was all Washburn as they held the Bulldogs to

15 points, which tied the tournament record for the fewest points in the second half. The Bulldogs hit 4 of 25 field goal attempts in the second half. Washburn however struggled from the field connecting on 8 of 31 field goal attempts, tallying 20 points. But the game in the second half wasn't in doubt as the Lady Blues pushed their lead to 32 points before closing out the 27-point win.

The Lady Blues were led by Brooke Ubelaker, who scored 14 of her 18 points in the second half. She also hit two 3-pointers in the game giving her 64 for the season snapping Lora Westling's and Erin Menard's shared mark of 62. Ubelaker also had nine rebounds. Jennifer Harris recorded her third double double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Bojana Samardziska recorded her second double double of the season with 13 points and 12 rebounds. She also tied the MIAA Tournament record with six blocks. The Lady Blues as a team had nine. Amanda Holmes had six points and five rebounds with a block and an assist in her first start of the season, filling in for Megan Sullivan who suffered a knee injury in the season finale at Central Missouri.

Notes:

* The 52 rebounds by the Lady Blues tied a season high. They had 52 against CSU-Stanislaus on Nov. 24.

* The 12 rebounds by Bojana Samardziska tied her season high.

* The Lady Blues improved to 10-6 all-time in the first round of the

MIAA Tournament and 2-0 against Truman all-time.

* Jennifer Harris tied Aneta Kausaite for 10th on the MIAA single-

season scoring chart with her 644th point of the season.

* The Lady Blues improved to 8-1 all-time in the MIAA Tournament in Kansas City.

* The Lady Blues are 20-11 all-time in the MIAA Tournament.

* The Lady Blues set a new single-season Washburn record for the most blocks in a season. They have 158 snapping last season's team total of 153.

* The Lady Blues won their last 30 non-conference games.

* The Lady Blues won their 27th straight game away from Lee Arena.

* Seniors April Roadhouse and Dani McHenry won their 119th game in a Washburn uniform. They are 119-12 (.915)
