| Lady Blues announce early signings

TOPEKA - The No. 6 Washburn Lady Blues have signed two prepsters to National Letter of Intents head coach Ron McHenry announced today. The Lady Blues received paperwork on Hadleigh Meek and Alyssa Mullen who will suit up for Washburn next season.
Meek is a 5-8 point guard from Parkville, Mo., and Park Hill South High School. She was a 2006 first team all-conference pick for the Panthers after averaging 13.0 points, 4.0 assists, 3.0 steals and 3.0 rebounds. She was named to the all-tournament teams at the Northland Classic, the Bishop Miege Tournament and the Winnetonka Tournament.
Mullen is a 5-11 off-guard and wing from Greenwood, Mo., and Lee's Summit West High School. She averaged 12 points, 6.9 rebounds, 4.0 steals, 3.0 blocks and 2.0 steals per game. She was a first team all-state, all-district and all-metro selection as well as a first team all-conference pick. She also earned MVP of the Sedalia Smith-Cotton Tournament and was named to the Independence Examiner's all-area first team.
The Lady Blues, who have won four straight MIAA Championships and reached the NCAA national tournament in five straight seasons, including the 2005 NCAA Championship, will open the 2006-07 season at the Emporia State/Candlewood Suites Classic against Southwestern Oklahoma State at 5:30 p.m. in Emporia.
The Lady Blues led the nation in attendance last season averaging 2,765 per game. Washburn is also the winningest team in the MIAA since the 1989-90 season winning 75 percent of their games going 386-129 overall and 209-77 (.731) in MIAA play. McHenry is the third winningest active coach in the NCAA Division II coaching ranks with a 159-33 (.828) record entering his seventh season at Washburn.
