EMPORIA, Kan. - The No. 6 Washburn Lady Blues won their opener 81-40 in the first game of the ESU/Candlewood Suites Classic over Southwestern Oklahoma. The Lady Blues will take on Cameron on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. back in Emporia.
The Lady Blues jumped out to a 13 point lead at 22-9 eight-plus minutes into the game and never looked back building their lead to as many as 22 in the first half taking a 46-24 advantage into the break.
Eleven different Lady Blues scored led by Cindy Keeley's 15 points. Brooke Ubelaker scored 14 and Corkey Stiger scored 13 off the bench.
Ubelaker became Washburn's all-time leading 3-point marksman hitting her 145 th of the season, snapping the tie she shared with former Lady Blue and assistant coach Lora Westling. Ubelaker finished the evening with four lifting her total to 148 for her career.
The Lady Blues forced 28 Bulldog turnovers turning the mistakes into 32 points. The Lady Blues also had 24 assists on 30 baskets. Ubelaker tied her career high with six assists.
