No. 2 Lady Blues get defensive in
69-36 win over Moundbuilders

TOPEKA - The No. 2 Washburn Lady Blues held Southwestern College to 12 points and four field goals in the second half in a 69-36 win over the Lady Moundbuilders in Lee Arena. With the win, Washburn improves to 5-0 on the season and will open MIAA play on Saturday with No. 25 ranked Missouri Western coming to town for a 5:30 p.m. tip.

With the defense holding Southwestern scoreless for a stretch of the final 2:10 of the first half and the first 9:59 of the second half, Washburn turned a 1-point lead at 25-24 to a 28-point lead at 52-24 to put the game out of reach.

Senior Megan Sullivan led the Lady Blues with 14 points. Amanda Holmes scored 13 and had a game-high and career-high 12 rebounds. Brooke Ubelaker had 10 points. Holmes also added a new career-high with four blocks as the Lady Blues swatted 10 as a team.

Southwestern was led by Kara Beal who scored 13 points as the only Lady Moundbuilder in double figures.
