HONOLULU, Hawaii – The No. 5 ranked Washburn Lady Blues breezed to a 90-44 win over Northwood (Mich.) in their first game of the Hoop-N-Surf Classic on Tuesday night. Washburn (8-1) will take on No. 7 Glenville State on Wednesday night at 10 p.m. CST in Hawaii.
Washburn opened the game with a 14-0 run holding the Timberwolves without a field goal for the first 8:18 of the game. Northwood trailed by as many as 35 in the first half as Washburn took a 49-17 lead into the break. The Lady Blues shot 62 percent from the field in the opening period hitting 18 of 29 shots and 6 of 11 from 3-point range while the Timberwolves were 4 of 19 while recorded 14 turnovers.
In the second half, it was much the same as Washburn led by as many as 37 cruising to the win.
Brooke Ubelaker led the Lady Blues with a season-high 23 points with 15 coming in the first half. She was 8 of 14 from the field, including 4 of 7 from 3-point range. Corkey Stiger scored 21 on 7 of 10 shooting and 3 of 6 from 3-point range. Also in double figures was Amanda Holmes with 10 points.
Washburn outrebounded Northwood 41 to 26 and forced 24 turnovers. For the game, Washburn was 11 of 21 from 3-point range.
