Lady Blues' Keiner named second team All-MIAA
April 26, 2006

(OVERLAND PARK, Kan.) -- Senior Gena Lindsay led four from the MIAA champion Northwest Missouri State Bearcats as first-team selections to the 2005-06 All-MIAA Women's Tennis Team as voted by the conference coaches.

Lindsay was a unanimous repeat selection at No. 1 singles as well as the conference's Most Valuable Player. She also won the Sportsmanship Award, which she shared last season, and earned honorable mention in doubles with junior partner Erica Ramirez.

Lindsay has a current string of 29 consecutive wins at No. 1 singles for Northwest (18-2, 6-0 MIAA).

Two other Bearcats were unanimous selections in their singles flights -- both freshmen. Lindsay's younger sister, Emily, picked up all possible first-team votes at No. 6, while Jordan Lipira did the same at No. 5. Lipira also earned first-team honors with junior partner Amanda Hardie at No. 3 doubles.

Lipira and a third freshman first-team choice, Lindsy Blair of Truman (13-7, 2-4 MIAA) at No. 3 singles, shared the MIAA Freshman of the Year award. Blair was 19-2 in dual match singles while Lipira was 13-2 -- both were undefeated in MIAA play.

Northwest head coach Mark Rosewell picked up his 18th MIAA Coach of the Year award between men's and women's tennis, as he guided the Bearcats to their 10th conference title -- first since 2003.

Conference runner-up Missouri Southern (12-7, 4-2 MIAA) had two players earn first-team recognition. Junior Barb Gombosi was the choice at No. 2 singles, and joined sophomore partner Michelle Hall to get the nod at No. 1 doubles.

After earning first-team selection last season at No. 6 singles, junior Karly Schultz of Emporia State (16-6, 3-3 MIAA) made the top squad at No. 4 singles.

Southwest Baptist (14-13, 4-2 MIAA) had its No. 2 doubles squad of senior Lynne Klaasen and sophomore Iveta Wolfgramm earn first-team accolades.
