Washburn
fares well in MIAA Tournament

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. Ñ The Washburn University menÕs and womenÕs
tennis teams fared well in the opening rounds of the MIAA Tennis Tournament
Thursday at the Cooper Tennis Center in Springfield.
The tournament resumes tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. with
consolation matches in singles and semifinal rounds in doubles play. The
menÕs singles semifinal will also be played Saturday morning. The singles
and doubles finals in both menÕs and womenÕs play begin at 9 a.m. Saturday
morning.
Each of the womenÕs flights in singles and doubles won
opening round matches, while four of six singles players advanced to the
finals for the Lady Blues. Eight of nine of the menÕs flights advanced
past the opening round.
Each squad must win the MIAA tournament to earn an automatic
berth to the NCAA II Midwest Regionals. The womenÕs team has hosted a
regional tournament each of the last four seasons.
