Washburn tennis team adds two recruits

Washburn tennis coach Jennifer Subbert has announced two signings to join the Ichabods and Lady Blues netters next season.

Blake Asbury, currently a senior at Topeka’s Washburn Rural High School is a three-time city double champion and three-time league champion. Asbury has qualified for the state tournament three times as well.

At state, Asbury has finished 10th, 5th and 6th from his freshman to junior seasons. He was regional champion in 2000 and a regional finalist in 1999.

Joining the Lady Blues is Kris Castillo, from James Madison High School in San Antonio, Texas.

Castillo was a four-year member of the varsity tennis team and team captain her senior season. She was the team MVP her sophomore and senior seasons and a super-championship player.

She finished third in the district tournament. Castillo was listed in Who’s Who Among American High School Students, treasurer of the Criminal Justice Club and an honor roll student with a 3.4 GPA. She is also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
