Lady Blues, Ichabod tennis teams adds signees (May 19)
Washburn head tennis coach Jennifer Hastert has announced the signing of two Ichabod and two Lady Blues netters who will join the teams in the fall. The Lady Blues are coming off their first MIAA Title since 2000 and the Ichabods fell in the championship match of the MIAA Tournament. Both teams just returned from the NCAA National Tournament in Orlando, Florida which the teams reached the Sweet 16 for the first time in school history.
Lady Blues and Ichabods fall in Round of 16 at nationals (May 12)
ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. - The Washburn Lady Blues tennis team fell 5-1 to Northeastern State in the Round of 16 at the NCAA Division II National Tournament Wednesday morning. Julie Huyberechts and Holly Munro teamed up for an 8-2 win in No. 3 doubles for the only win for the Lady Blues. Washburn finished the year 22-6 and reached the Round of 16 as a team for the first time. The Ichabods fell 5-0 to Drury University in the afternoon and finished 18-8 on the season. Lady Blues top UNO, going to Florida for Sweet 16 (May 8)
TOPEKA - The Washburn Lady Blues advanced to the Sweet 16 with a 5-1 win over Nebraska-Omaha. The Lady Blues took all three doubles flights and then Lindsay Sullivan won her No. 4 match 7-5, 6-1 and Holly Munro won her No. 5 match 6-2, 6-2 to close out the win. The lone win for the Mavericks came at No. 1 singles where Sara Batchelor topped Erin Underwood 6-1, 6-4. The win marks the first time a Washburn team, either men's or women's have advanced to the national tournament and the first representation by Washburn at a national event since current head coach Jennifer Hastert (then Subbert) advanced with doubles partner Jill Bernhardt in 1996. Lady Blues advance to Saturday action in tennis regional (May 7)
TOPEKA - The Lady Blues topped Minnesota-Duluth and will face Nebraska-Omaha on Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Washburn Tennis Complex. The Mavericks 5-0 win over St. Cloud State set up a rematch of a April 5th match in which the Lady Blues won 5-4. Washburn was swept in doubles play, but came back to win 5-of-6 singles matches for the win. The Lady Blues won all three doubles matches with Minnesota-Duluth and the first set in each of the six singles matches before closing it out with the 5-0 win. Lady Blues fall in MIAA tennis to NWMSU (April 19)

Lady Blues netters put together comeback win (April 5)
TOPEKA - The Washburn Lady Blues tennis topped the No. 1 team in the region, Nebraska-Omaha 5-4, to improve to 14-2 on the season. The Lady Blues were the No. 2 ranked team in the region and were down 3-0 to the Mavericks after doubles play, but they regrouped to take 5 of the 6 singles matches for the win. The Lady Blues are back in action starting at 9 a.m. with the Ichabods in a dual match with Central Oklahoma. At 3 p.m., both teams will take on Northwest Missouri.
Lady Blues tennis team rolls over Griffons (March 30)
TOPEKA - The Washburn Lady Blues tennis team shutout Missouri Western 9-0 to improve to 11-2 on the season. The Lady Blues dropped a total of 18 games in the sweep over the Griffons. Both the men's and women's tennis teams will be back in action on Thursday when they take on Graceland at 2 p.m. at the Washburn Tennis Complex.
Tennis opens MIAA slate beating ESU (March 17)
The Lady Blues tennis teams open its MIAA season knocking off the Lady Hornets 6-3 to improve to 8-0 on the season.

Washburn tennis teams end seasons in round
of 32 (May 3)
The Washburn Ichabod and Lady Blues' tennis teams had their seasons
come to an end after falling in the round of 32 of the NCAA Tournament.
The Lady Blues fell 5-1
to Northwest Missouri. The doubles duo of Lindsey Sullivan and
Caitlin Day picked up the lone win for the Lady Blues. The men fell
to No. 10 ranked Southwest
Baptist 5-0. The Lady Blues end the season with a 20-5 record
and the Ichabods finish with a record of 14-7. On Friday, the Ichabods
topped Northern Colorado
5-2 to advance to Saturday's finals against Southwest Baptist.
The Washburn women's team topped Nebraska-Omaha
5-1 to advance to the regional finals.
Lady Blues place three on first team all-MIAA,
Hastert Coach of the Year (April 28)
OVERLAND PARK, Kan . - The Washburn Lady Blues placed three
on the All-MIAA Women's Tennis team that was recently announced.
Sophomore Caitlin Day was named first team at No. 3 singles as she
was also the only unanimous singles selection on the first team.
She was also a first team selection at No. 2 doubles with junior
Lindsay Sullivan. Junior Holly Munro was a first team pick at No.
5 singles. Named to the second team were junior Erin Underwood and
freshman Katie Schmidt at No. 1 doubles, sophomore Kris Castillo
at No. 6 singles and at No. 3 doubles with Munro. Named to the honorable
mention squad were Underwood at No. 1 sinlges and Schmidt at No.
2 singles. The Lady Blues are the No. 3 seed at this weekend's NCAA
Regional Tournament in Maryville and they will take on the No. 6
seeded Nebraska-Omaha.

MARYVILLE, Mo - The Washburn Lady Blues tennis team fell in the
Championship 5-0 to Northwest
Missouri. The Lady Blues reached the finals by beating Southwest
Baptist in the semifinals 5-1. The Ichabods tennis team topped
Missouri-Rolla 5-0
and fell to Northwest
Missouri 5-2 in the semis. The third place match with Truman
State was canceled due to rain. |
