Ichabod golf team 27 holes from 4th MIAA Championship in last 5 years

HOLLISTER, Mo. - The Washburn Ichabods are within 27 holes of their fourth MIAA Championship in the last five years as they hold a 13-shot advantage over Missouri Western and a 15-shot lead over Truman State after the first 27 holes of the MIAA Championship Tournament at Branson Creek Golf Club.
The Ichabods were the leaders in the clubhouse after the first 18 holes as they posted a team score of 302 - five shots better than Missouri Western. The second round consisted of nine holes and the Ichabods recorded a 144 - seven shots better than Truman.
Individually, the Ichabods hold the top two positions as Matt Lazzo leads the 47-man field after carding a 1-over 108 for the 27 holes. He leads Matt Ewald, who has already recorded enough points to claim the MIAA Golfer of the Year Award, who is tied for second with a 3-over 110. He is tied with Truman's Jesse Helmes and Central Missouri's Jarod Moran. Moran is playing as a medalist for the Mules, negating his score the Mules' team score.
John Robbins is tied for ninth after recording a 6-over 113. Robbins is followed by Ryan Deutsch, who is 9-over and tied for 15th overall after shooting a 116 for the 27 holes. Daniel Hersch is tied for 24th playing as a medalist for the Ichabods. Taylor Dunham is tied for 31st after recording a 14-over 121.
The final 27 holes will begin at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow morning with nine holes then the final 18 to wrap up the tournament.
The event counts for double the points in the MIAA golf standings -- the winner getting 16 points, with the runner-up getting 14, and on down in two-point increments.
Washburn has been the top MIAA performer in each of the four conference-sanctioned events contested thus far this season, and the Ichabods stand in first with a perfect 32 points. WU is aiming to finish with a perfect conference mark for the second time in three seasons -- the Ichabods last did it in 2004-05.
