Five Ichabods named to All-MIAA Golf team - Hamilton earns third straight MIAA Coach of the Year award

Final MIAA Standings

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association champion Washburn Ichabods had five players earn recognition on the 2004-05 All-MIAA Golf Team.

The All-MIAA Team is selected based on a point system determined by the players' finish at the five conference-sanctioned events played this season -- two in the fall and three in the spring.

The lowest scorer in each meet is awarded 10 points, while the 10th lowest is given one point. This is the ninth season the system has been used to determine the honorees. This season, 11 players were honored due to a tie.

The Ichabods (42 points in the MIAA standings) won their third consecutive MIAA championship by sweeping all five conference events -- the first team to do so since the 1999-2000 Central Missouri State Mules.

The championship also qualifies WU to play in the NCAA Division II Central/Great Lakes Super Regional at St. Joseph Country Club in St. Joseph, Mo., May 2-4. Missouri Western (30 points) will serve as the Super Regional host.

WU is represented by senior Paul Resner, juniors Chris McGown and Jeremiah Nelson, sophomore Taylor Dunham and freshman Ryan Deutsch. McGown is one of four repeat selections from last year's team and was the top MIAA player in two league meets this season (at Pittsburg State and Missouri Southern), while Dunham won the WU Ichabod Invitational.

WU's Deutsch and junior Brice Garnett of Missouri Western were the only players to be among the top 10 in all five MIAA events. Garnett has not missed the top 10 in a conference event during his three seasons, winning the MIAA Tournament for the second time in as many years with a one-over par 217 to go with his win at the Southwest Baptist Invitational to start the season.

Senior Nick Layman of SBU (14 points) finishes as a four-time All-MIAA performer, while senior Danny Sinksen of MSSU (25 points) joins Garnett as a three-time selection.

Rounding out the team are senior Austin George of Truman (16 points), freshman Jon Sauer of CMSU (34 points) and freshman Aaron Lisenbee of Western.

WU's Doug Hamilton earned MIAA Coach of the Year for the third time in as many seasons, after guiding a team which lost two All-MIAA players from a year ago back to the league title.
