Lady Blues tennis team blanks Griffons 9-0
(April 5) ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The No. 40 ranked Washburn Lady Blues tennis team breezed to a 9-0 blanking of Missouri Western improving to 10-6 on the season and 2-2 in the MIAA. The Lady Blues dropped only 14 games between the six singles matches. Washburn will be back in action on April 7 against Truman in Kirksville, Mo. (April 4) TOPEKA - The No. 40 ranked Washburn Lady Blues picked up a big regional win over Nebraska-Omaha in a 5-4 win. The Lady Blues were behind 2-1 after doubles play, but rallied to win four of the six singles matches for the win to improve to 9-6 overall and 8-2 in the North Central Region. The Lady Blues' Jennifer Keiner wrapped up the match at No. 1 singles with a three-set win over Katie Schmidt, taking the third set 7-5. Also winning their singles matches were Julie Huyberechts at No. 2, Amber Raindl at No. 4 and Allie Gardner at No. 5. The Washburn doubles win was at No. 3 with Alex Rodenbeek and Audrie Miller combining for the win 8-2. (March 29) The Washburn Lady Blues, ranked No. 40 in the Division II national rankings, swept through Nebraska-Kearney winning 9-0. Washburn jumped out to a great start dropping only five games in doubles play. In the top three singles positions for the Lady Blues, they dropped only six games. Washburn, who improved to 6-5 on the season, will battle Emporia State at 11 a.m. The time has changed to accomodate either beating the wet weather that is predicted for Topeka or to move locations to Wood Valley Tennis Center. (March 26) Hilton Head, S.C. - The Lady Blues tennis team struggled in two of their three matches over spring break falling 6-3 to the University of Chicago and Erskine 8-1. The Lady Blues rebounded with a 9-0 whitewashing over Albright College. The Lady Blues dropped only three games in the win over Albright. (March 15) TOPEKA - The No. 30 ranked Washburn Lady Blues tennis team dropped a 5-4 MIAA match to Missouri Southern falling to 1-1 in conference play and 4-3 overall. (March 5) TOPEKA - The No. 30 ranked Washburn Lady Blues tennis team blitzed though weekend opponents only dropping one match in 26 on the weekend. The Lady Blues topped Metro State 8-1, Winona State 9-0 and Colorado State-Pueblo 8-0 improving to 3-1 on the year. The Lady Blues will be back in action on March 11 against Southwest Baptist. (Sept. 12) TOPEKA - The Lady Blues tennis team opened the 2005-06 season at the Wichita State Invitiational over the weekend. The Lady Blues had three netters who won their flights. Audrie Miller at No. 4 singles, Allie Gardner at No. 5 singles and Lauren Harris at No. 6 singles. The Lady Blues tennis team also had their first dual match of the season falling to Rockhurst 5-4 on Monday. (May 10) OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- The Washburn Lady Blues and Ichabod tennis teams had three placed on the Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll that was announced today. Lady Blues senior Caitlin Day (history), Julie Huyberechts (art) and Ichabod junior Tyler Kinder (mathematics). Student-athletes are named to the list under the following criteria: 1.) The student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.00 or better at the qualifying institution; 2.) The student-athlete must have at least two terms of attendance at the member school, excluding summer sessions; 3.) The student-athlete must be a sophomore, junior or senior in athletic eligibility; 4.) Student-athletes inactive due to redshirt or hardship qualification are not eligible.
