TOPEKA -- The Washburn Lady Blues had three players named to the All-MIAA honorable mention squad that was released by the MIAA office. Freshman midfielder Meagan Horvath, freshman defender Monica Ruiz and freshman forward Jenna Lawless were all named to the team.

WARRENSBURG, Mo. - The Washburn Lady Blues soccer team finished off its first season in school history with a 2-1 overtime loss to Central Missouri. CMSU scored first in the 17th minute of the match and the Lady Blues Stacey Becker tied the score up on a header off a corner kick by Megan Horvath. Neither team scored in the second half and the Jennies scored the winning goal 2:43 into the overtime period. TOPEKA, Kan. - The Washburn Lady Blues wrapped up its home slate with a 1-0 overtime loss to the Missouri-Rolla Lady Miners. Barb Porter scored in the 107th minute to give Missouri-Rolla the win. The Lady Blues had nine shots on goal, four by Meagan Horvath. Lady Blues Keeper Erica Painting had seven saves. TOPEKA.- The Washburn Lady Blues fell 3-0 to No. 12 ranked Truman State. The Lady Blues held the Bulldogs scoreless in the second half, but were outshot 10-0 in the final period. Meagan Horvath had three shots and Anna Fahey had the other for the Lady Blues. TOPEKA.- The Washburn Lady Blues soccer team stayed with Southwest Baptist most of the game but couldn't get get past the Bearcat defense in a 4-2 loss Saturday afternoon. Traling 2-0, Jenna Lawless scored on a pass from Meagan Horvath 25 minutes into the game. Horvath also got the Lady Blues on the board with a goal with just 2:37 left in the first half, which was the last shot for Washburn. The Lady Blues were outshot 21-5. TOPEKA.- The Washburn Lady Blues soccer team worked a double overtime shift and ended in a 1-1 tie with arch-rival Emporia State. In contrast from the first meeting in a 6-4 Emporia State win, the Lady Blues outshot the Lady Hornets 17-12, but only Meagan Horvath's goal at the 75:17 mark found the net after ESU's Brandie Booth's goal at the 67:10 mark. TOPEKA.- The Washburn Lady Blues soccer team picked up its second straight MIAA win topping Missouri Southern 3-2. Melissa Zadina scored the tying and go-ahead goals. Her first goal at the 21:42 mark of the first half on an assist from Meagan Horvath knotted the score at two and her game-winner at the 76:34 of the game was the winner and her seventh goal of the season. Jenna Lawless got the Lady Blues on the board scoring her fifth goal of the season. After allowing the two early goals, Washburn's Erica Painting kept the Lions scoreless the final 74:23 of the match with five saves. TOPEKA.- The Washburn Lady Blues soccer team ended a seven-game winless streak with a 4-1 win over Northwest Missouri. Jenna Lawless scored her third and fourth goals of the season. Her first goal snapped a 336:26 scoreless play streak for the Lady Blues. Stephanie Bruegger and Rebecca Nye each scored their first goals in Washburn uniforms. Bruegger's gave Washburn a 2-1 lead. Washburn goalie Erica Painting allowed the one Northwest goal 2:02 into the game, but shut the Bearcats out the rest of the game with eight saves. TOPEKA.- The Washburn Lady Blues soccer team fell 2-0 to Central Missouri State Saturday afternoon. The Jennies got on the board 25 minutes into the game on Teleshia Joseph's goal. Central added the final goal with 30 minutes left in the game on Josie Vanwey's goal. The Lady Blues outshot the Jennies 11 to 7 but fell to 2-9 and 0-7 in the MIAA. Zadina named Wilson/MIAA Player of the Week (Sept. 9)

OVERLAND PARK, KAN. - Melissa Zadina, a 5-foot-9 freshman from Olathe, Kan., scored two goals in less than 20 minutes to spark the Lady Blues' 3-2, come-from-behind victory over East Central (Okla.) Sunday (Sept. 7). She became the first Lady Blue to score two goals in a game, when she scored in the 66th and 85th minute to tie the match at 2-2. WU took the lead in the 87th minute. Zadina also assisted on the first goal in WU history during a 5-1 win over Ottawa (Kan.) Wednesday (Sept. 3). Zadina is the first Lady Blues to be named MIAA Player of the Week. She is a graduate of Olathe East High School.

Lady Blues score 3 in final 24:32 for comeback win (Sept. 7)

TOPEKA - The Washburn Lady Blues were held scoreless for the first 65:28 of the match with East Central, but stormed back to score the final three goals of the afternoon in the final 24:32 for a come-from-behind 3-2 win. Melissa Zadina scored two of the three goals and Celese Siebert scored the third as the Lady Blues even their record at 2-2-0 in their first season. OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association volleyball coaches have selected 2002 NCAA Division II runner-up Truman State University as the favorite to win the conference title for the upcoming season. The Lady Blues, the defending MIAA Champions, were picked third.

Tim Collins named first coach in Lady Blues soccer history (Dec. 23)

Washburn Logo Washburn Athletic Director Loren Ferre’ has announced former Topeka West and Seaman (Topeka) High School soccer coach Tim Collins has been named the first coach in Washburn Lady Blues soccer history. The Lady Blues will start full varsity action in the fall 2003. Collins has lead the Washburn Club team the past two seasons.
