Ichabods sweep Gorillas
(May 7) TOPEKA - The Washburn baseball team swept Pittsburg State 4-3 and 8-7 at Falley Field Saturday. Jesse Schmidt drove in Jerad Head for the winning run in the bottom of the seventh in the opener. Jake Lenherr picked up his seventh win, giving up three runs on 12 hits. Schmidt and Michael Hammersmith each smacked solo homers. Washburn scored six unearned runs in teh bottom of the sixth to erase a 4-1 deficit in game two. Jerad Head's single drove in two runs and an error allowed Head and Sam Sissom to score on the hit. (May 6) TOPEKA - The Washburn baseball team fell 11-10 to Pittsburg State at Falley Field Friday night. The Ichabods plated five runs in the first two innings, including a two-run homer by Jerad Head in the second to take a 5-0 lead. CMSU plated two unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh on three errors to ruin a shutout bid by starter Randy Wild. (March 18) - The Washburn Ichabods topped Missouri Southern 4-1 in Joplin, Mo. before hopping on the bus to win 4-1 at Pittsburg State Friday afternoon. The Ichabods scored three runs on an error, an RBI single by Bryce Wood and a solo homer by Michael Hammersmith to take a 4-1 lead in the eighth. (March 17) JOPLIN, Mo. - The Washburn Ichabods swept a doubleheader from Bemidji State 11-9 and 13-2 in at the Missouri Southern Classic Thursday. Washburn used a 7-run seventh to take game one. Sam Sissom's bases loaded double drove in three runs in the seventh, while Craig Cochran hit a 3-run homer in the fourth. Keith Barkemeyer got the win. (March 14) TOPEKA - The Washburn Ichabods punded out 33 hits and scored 37 runs in a doubleheader sweep over Minnesota-Crookston taking all four games in the series. OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Washburn’s Jake Loveless was named Wilson/MIAA Pitcher of the Week by the conference Tuesday Loveless won the award after helping Washburn to a 7-0 win in the second game of a weekend series with Pittsburg State Saturday. Loveless, a 5-10 freshman right-hander from Lyndon, Kan., retired the first 11 batters he faced Saturday en route to a six-hit shutout. He struck out five batters and walked only one to record his first shutout of the season and improve to 6-1 with a team-best 3.20 ERA.
Ichabods drop season finale at PSU (May 2)
PITTSBURG, Kan. - The Washburn baseball team fell 7-0 in the season finale at Pittsburg State Sunday afternoon. The loss dropped the Ichabods, who finished 26-23 and 15-15 in MIAA play, out of contention for the final spot in the MIAA Tournament. The game was delayed an hour and 15 minutes due to rain. PSU's Brad Stroud tossed a five-hit shutout to improve to 8-2, while Brian Martinek led Washburn with a 2-for-3 performance. Keith Barkemeyer picked up his first career win, going four scoreless innings of relief. Washburn outfielder Dylan Smith was named to the All-Central
Region first team which was announced by the American Baseball Coaches
Association. Smith, a senior from Maple Hill, Kan., led Washburn
with a .426 and collected 72 hits to rank seventh in Washburn single
season history. He collected seven doubles and hit a team-high four
home runs, while driving in 39 runs and stealing 24 bases.

that Silver Lake High School's Brian Martinek signed a letter of
intent to play baseball for the Ichabods next season. Martinek,
a 5-11 right-handed catcher and pitcher, earned all-league honors
four seasons and all-state honors three seasons for the Eagles in
baseball.

JOPLIN, Mo. The Washburn Ichabods dropped two of three games
at Missouri Southern in a weekend series at Joe Becker Stadium.
Washburn won the opener 9-1 behind excellent pitching performances
by Kevin Smith and Jake Lenherr, before dropping the next two games
8-6 and 8-6. Smith gave up only two hits in six shutout innings,
while Lenherr gave up one run on two hits in three relief innings.
Jason Meysenburg had three hits and Jerad Head had a home run and
three RBI. Dylan Smith had a home run and drove in three, while
Sam Sissom collected three hits in the second game Friday night.
