Ichabod golfers finish with school-best 10th place finish
(May 20) SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Washburn golf team finished in 10th place at the NCAA Division II National Golf Tournament Friday at The Club at Savannah Harbor. The Ichabods were 47-over par at 1183 to finish 25 shots back of national champion South Carolina-Aiken. The Pacers defended their 2004 NCAA Division II title. Junior Jeremiah Nelson (McPherson, Kan.) finished 16th place at 7-over 291 after firing a 76 in the final round and senior Chris McGown (Mound City, Kan.) finished in a tie for 20th with a 9-over 293. Ichabod golfers tied for sixth after three rounds at NCAA Golf Tournament
(May 19) SAVANNAH, Ga - The Washburn golf team moved into a tie for sixth place after three rounds of the NCAA Division II National Golf Tournament at The Club at Savannah Harbor. The Ichabods were 32-over par at 884 to finish 19 shots behind leader South Carolina-Aiken. The Ichabods fired a 12-over 296 in the third round Thursday. Junior Jeremiah Nelson (McPherson, Kan.) fell to fourth place at 2-over 215 after firing a 74 in the third round. Senior Chris McGown (Mound City, Kan.) moved into ninth place at 4-over 217 after shooting a 1-under 70. He was one of 10 golfers to shoot under par on Thursday. Ichabod golfers six shots back after round two is completed at NCAAs
(May 19) SAVANNAH, Ga - The Washburn golf team was in six shots back and in seventh place after finishing the second round of the NCAA Division II National Golf Tournament at The Club at Savannah Harbor Thursday morning. The Ichabods were 20-over par at 588 but just six shots back of leader South Carolina-Aiken. Play in the second round was suspended Wednesday night due to several weather delays and darkness before resuming 6:45 a.m. (Eastern Standard Time) Thursday. The Ichabods will tee off their third round beginning at 2:50 p.m. (EST) today. Junior Jeremiah Nelson (McPherson, Kan.) was in second place at 1-under 141. Ichabod golfers seven back at NCAAs when play suspends round two
(May 17) SAVANNAH, Ga - The Washburn golf team was in ninth place when play was suspended in the second round of the NCAA Division II National Golf Tournament at The Club at Savannah Harbor Wednesday. The Ichabods were 19-over par but just seven shots back of leaders St. Edward's and California State-Bakersfield. 12 teams had not completed action, including the Ichabods and the second round will resume 6:45 (EST) Thursday. Round three of the four day tournament is tentatively scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m (EST). Junior Jeremiah Nelson (McPherson, Kan.) was in second place at 2-over. Nelson was 1-over in his second round with two holes to play. Senior Chris McGown (Mound City, Kan.) was tied for 26th at 4-over par through 15 holes. (May 16) SAVANNAH, Ga . -- The Washburn Ichabod golf team will be making their third straight NCAA Division II National Tournament appearance when they open play on Tuesday in the first of four rounds in Savannah, Ga. at The Club at Savannah Harbor. The Ichabods' Ryan Deutsch will get things started for the Ichabods as he tees off at 8:20 a.m. EST followed by Jeremiah Nelson, Matt Warnock, Paul Resner and Chris McGown in 10-minute increments. Ichabod golf team takes third straight Central Region championship
(May 4) ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- The Washburn Ichabod golf clinched a berth to its third straight NCAA National Golf Tournament by winning the Central Region golf title by 16 strokes Wednesday at St. Joseph Country Club. The Ichabods carded a 14-over par 298 today for a 54 hole total of 890. Chris McGown tied for second place at 220, after shooting a 4-over 75. Matt Warnock shot a 2-over 73 to lead the Ichabods today. Warnock jumped into a fourth place at 221. Jeremiah Nelson tied for seventh at 224 after firing a 4-over 75, while Paul Resner finished in 10th at 225 and Ryan Deutsch finished in a tie for 26th at 237. (May 3) The Washburn Ichabod golf team is one day from heading to their third straight NCAA National Golf Tournament as they hold a seven stroke lead after two days. The Ichabods carded a 10-over par 294 today for a 36 hole total of 592. The Ichabods lead Missouri Western by seven shots heading into Wednesday's final round, which begins at 9 a.m. The Ichabods' senior No. 1 player, Chris McGown, is tied second place at 145, after shooting a 4-over 75. Matt Warnock shot a 1-over 72 to lead the Ichabods today. Warnock has jumped into a tie for fifth place at 148. Five Ichabods named All-MIAA - Hamilton earns third straight Coach of the Year award
(April 20) OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - The Washburn golf team had five All-MIAA selections and Doug Hamilton earned Coach of the Year honors for the third straight year. WU was represented by seniors Paul Resner and Chris McGown, junior Jeremiah Nelson, sophomore Taylor Dunham and freshman Ryan Deutsch. McGown is one of four repeat selections from last year's team. Ichabods take third straight MIAA golf title
(April 19) BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. - The Washburn golf team shot a 54-hole total of 886 (+22) to win the MIAA Golf Championship at Blue Springs Country Club Monday afternoon. The win gave Washburn the MIAA title and the conference's first sweep of all MIAA matches since Central Missouri swept through the league in 1999-2000. Washburn topped Central Missouri (898) by 12 shots and Missouri Western (902) by 16 shots to claim the school's third straight MIAA title. Washburn was led by Chris McGown, who finished with a 5-over 221 to finish second place individually. Defending champion Brice Garnett of Missouri Western won the tournament with a 1-over 217 total. Ichabods take lead at MIAA Golf Championship
(April 18) BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. - The Washburn golf team shot a 27-hole total of 436 (+4) to take a one shot lead in the MIAA Golf Championship at Blue Springs Country Club Monday afternoon. Washburn edged Missouri Western's 437 and is five shots ahead of Central Missouri State (441). The Ichabods swept the four MIAA events and are looking for the MIAA's first sweep of all events since CMSU in 1999-2000. Washburn was led Monday by Taylor Dunham's 1-under 107 (73-34). Dunham was in third place, while Chris McGown (75-36) and Paul Resner (73-38) were tied for sixth at 111. The tournament concludes with the final 27 holes Tuesday. (more)

Dunham named MIAA Golfer of the Week
(April 12) Taylor Dunham was named MIAA Golfer of the week after winning the Ichabod Invitational at Topeka Country Club last week. Dunham carded a one-over par 72 in each of his two rounds to finish with a 36-hole total of 144. Washburn's No. 2 team, which actually led the tournament after 18 holes, finished second to the No. 1 Ichabod squad in the meet by 13 strokes, 590-603. Dunham is a graduate of Hesston High School. Washburn golf team second in Central Region Invitational
(April 12) LEAWOOD, Kan. - The Washburn golf team finished second with an 11-over 299 total at the Central Region Invite at Ironhorse Golf Club. Washburn wins Ichabod Golf Invitational
(April 5) TOPEKA -- The Washburn golf team fired a 590 to win the Ichabod Invitational by 13 strokes over the Washburn second team at Topeka County Club Tuesday. Paul Resner (74-72) and Ryan Deutsch (75-71) led the squad with 146s to finish in third place, while Jeremiah Nelson (77-72) finished in sixth at 149. McGown named MIAA Golfer of the Week
(April 4) Washburn's Chris McGown was named MIAA Golfer of the Week Tuesday. McGown, a senior from Mound City, Kan., won a three-man playoff to earn medalist honors at the Missouri Southern Invitational March 28. After shooting a 79 in the opening round, McGown carded a two-over 74 on the final round. McGown led the Ichabods to second place in the meet, leading the MIAA teams in the conference-scored event with a 36-hole, four-man score of 627 -- one shot ahead of Western. McGown is a graduate of Jayhawk-Linn High School, and transferred to WU from Johnson County (Kan.) Community College.

Ichabod golfers place 2nd at MSSU, McGown wins in playoff
(March 29) - The Washburn golf team finished second at the Missouri Southern Invitational, but topped the six other MIAA schools in the conference points race to increase their lead to five points in the MIAA standings with only Washburn's Invitational next week and the MIAA Tournament April 18-19. Ichabod golf team places 4th at Cameron Invite

McGown named MIAA Golfer of the Week (Oct. 19) OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - The MIAA announced Tuesday that Washburn golfer Chris McGown was named Wilson/MIAA Golfer of the Week. McGown, a senior from Mound City, Kan., fired a 2-under par 70 in the final round of the Pittsburg State Invitational last Tuesday (Oct. 12) to capture medalist honors and lead the Ichabods to the team title.

Ichabods win PSU Invite (Oct. 12)
PITTSBURG, Kan. - The Washburn golf team fired a 2-under 286 to win the Pittsburg State Invitational at Crestwood Country Club Tuesday. Washburn's 588 total was eight strokes ahead of Drury University. Chris McGown fired a 144 to win the tournament, including a 2-under 70 on Tuesday. BOLIVAR, Mo. - The Washburn Ichabods fired a 1-under par 287 to finish with a 36-hole total of 585 to win the Southwest Baptist Invitational Tuesday at Silo Ridge Country Club. The Ichabods topped second place Missouri Western by 21 strokes. Chris McGown led Washburn with a 146 after shooting 3-under 69 in the second round to take third place, while Matt Warnock (74-74) and Jeremiah Nelson (75-73) tied for fourth at 148. The finish was the best for the Ichabods in school history (16th in 2003 was previous best) after opening the tournament in 18th place.
