Ichabods sign standout defensive lineman
(Dec. 16) Ichabod head coach Craig Schurig has announced today that Roy Sims, a 6-5, 295 defensive lineman has signed a letter of intent to join the squad this spring. (more)

Schuerman named D2Football.com National Player of the Week
(Dec. 6) Ichabod senior quarterback Tyler Schuerman was named the D2Football.com National Offenisve Player of the Week that was announced today. Schuerman had a record tying performance in Washburn's 36-33 win over Northern State in the 2004 Mineral Water Bowl. In his last collegiate action, he was 23-38 through the air, racking up a career-high 400 yards and four touchdowns. The four touchdowns tied a Mineral Water Bowl record for TD passes, both set by junior college quarterbacks. The D2 Mineral Water Bowl record was three.

Ichabods win 2004 Mineral Water Bowl over Wolves
(Dec. 4) EXCELSIOR SPRINGS, Mo. - The Washburn Ichabods won their first postseason game against collegiate competition since 1976 completing a stellar 8-4 season winning the 2004 Mineral Water Bowl 36-33 over Northern State as the Ichabods' Connor Sabel kicks the game-winning field goal as time expired. Ichabods football team places 11 on MIAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll
(Dec. 5) Overland Park, Kan. - The 2004 Mineral Water Bowl Champions had 11 members placed on the MIAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll that was announced before the game. Ichabods on the team were Adam Azeltine, Evin Beck, Ben Boswell, Matt Durler, Zach Hemmerling, Dustin Hickel, Josh Looney, Pat Mack, Chris McCann, Blake Meyer and Tyler Schuerman. To be eligible, the student-athlete must be at least a sophomore in athletic eligibility and have a 3.0 GPA, while completing at least two semesters of attendance.

Ichabods football team makes 1st postseason appearance since 1988 in Mineral Water Bowl
(Nov. 30) The Washburn Ichabods will wrap up 2004 season, their most successful campaign since 1988, when they take on the Northern State Wolves in the Mineral Water Bowl. The Ichabods finished the regular season 7-4 and in third place in the MIAA with a 6-3 record. The Wolves were 6-4 this season and went 5-2 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Northern State finished in a tie for second with Bemidji State, but won the head-to-head meeting to advance to the Mineral Water Bowl. Durler repeats as Academic All-District selection
(Nov. 11) Washburn University's senior offensive lineman Matt Durler was a repeat selection on the College Division Academic All-District VII First Team as selected by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). (more)

(Nov. 9) OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics announced Tuesday that 11 members of the Washburn football team earned All-MIAA honors for the 2004 season. Washburn went 7-4 and is in postseason play for the first time since 1988 with a Mineral Water Bowl Berth.

Two Ichabods earn MIAA Player of the Week honors
(Nov. 9) OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics announced Tuesday that Washburn senior quarterback Tyler Schuerman and junior wide receiver/punt returner Sam Sissom were named Wilson/MIAA Offensive Player of the Week and Special Teams Player of the Week respectively.

Ichabods earn Bowl Bid with win at MSSU
(Nov. 6 ) JOPLIN, Mo. - The Washburn Ichabods put up 490 yards of total offense in a 58-43 victory over Missouri Southern in Fred G. Hughes Stadium Saturday afternoon. Tyler Schuerman tossed five touchdown passes, including three to Mike Odupitan to lead the Ichabod offense. With the win Washburn improved to 7-4 for the first time since 1988 and improved to 6-3 in the MIAA for the first time in school history. Ichabods look for 7th win of the season against Lions
(Nov. 2) The Washburn Ichabods will wrap up the regular season in a matchup against the Missouri Southern Lions. The Ichabods are 6-5 and 5-4 in the MIAA. They have already secured a winning season via their 30-23 win over Missouri Western last weekend. The Ichabods are looking for their first seven-win season since 1988 and their first trip to a post-season game since that same year when they went to the NAIA playoffs. Ichabods win homecoming matchup with Griffons
(Oct. 30) TOPEKA - The Washburn Ichabods used a fourth quarter comeback for a 30-23 win over Missouri Western on homecoming and senior day in Yager Stadium. The Ichabods' Tyler Schuerman hooked up with Sam Sissom with 21 seconds remaining for the win. With the win, the Ichabods have lifted their record to 6-4, recording a winning season for the first time since 1999. The Ichabods' MIAA record now stands at 5-3, recording a winning season for the first time in conference play since joining the MIAA. (Oct. 23) WARRENSBURG, Mo. - The Washburn Ichabods fell 47-21 to Central Missouri State at Walton Stadium Saturday afternoon. Sam Sissom caught two touchdowns from Tyler Schuerman to lead the WU offense. Sissom has 12 touchdown receptions for the season. Washburn, which fell to 5-4 and is in a tie for third in the MIAA at 4-3, is back home 1 p.m. Saturday for Senior Day and Homecoming against Missouri Western. Ichabods to face Miners
(Oct. 13) The Washburn Ichabods begin a two-game road trip as the travel to Rolla, Mo. to take on Missouri-Rolla. The match-up will be the final time the two teams will meet in a conference game with the Miners leaving the MIAA at the end of the 2004-05 season. Both teams used a late-game comeback in their last games as the Ichabods topped Southwest Baptist 38-35 on a 31-yard touchdown pass with 31 seconds left from Tyler Schuerman to Mike Odupitan. The Miners snapped a 58-game MIAA losing streak defeating No. 23 ranked Central Missouri 42-38 as Phil Shin hauled in a 34-yard touchdown strike from Brandon Landrey with 1:35 left in the game. Ichabods hold off SBU
(Oct. 9) TOPEKA - The Washburn football team held off Southwest Baptist 38-35 at Yager Stadium Saturday afternoon. Mike Odupitan's 6-yard touchdown catch from Tyler Schuerman gave the Ichabods a 36-35 lead with 31 seconds left. It was the second time in a row that Schuerman and Odupitan had connected in the final minutes of the game to go ahead of Southwest Baptist. The combo scored with 1:11 remaining in a 41-37 win last season over the Bearcats in Bolivar. The Ichabods improved to 4-3 and 3-2 in the MIAA heading into Saturday's 1 p.m. game at Missouri-Rolla. PIITTSBURG, Kan. - The Washburn Ichabods fell 70-14 at Pittsburg State Saturday afternoon at Carnie Smith Stadium. Jordan Brill connected with Jeff Scott for an 8-yard touchdown in the second quarter, while Dustin Hickel hit Cason Lehman for a 34-yard touchdown with 12:28 to play. (Sept. 26) The Ichabods enter today's game with a 3-2 overall record as they travel to take on their second top-five opponent in as many games as they battle the No. 3 ranked Pittsburg State Gorillas. The Ichabods are 2-1 in MIAA. The Gorillas are 5-0 and 3-0 in the MIAA. KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - The Washburn Ichabods pounded Truman State 62-0 at Stokes Stadium Saturday afternoon. The Ichabods scored 48 first half points, including 34 in the second quarter. With the win Washburn improved to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the MIAA for the first time since 1997. The Bulldogs fell to 0-4 and 0-2 in the MIAA. TOPEKA - The Washburn Ichabods won their first MIAA-opening game since 2000 and defeated Emporia State in the process in the 101st meeting in the series with a 28-10 win in Yager Stadium. The Orediggers scored the winning touchdown with 4:55 to play in the fourth quarter to hand Washburn the loss. OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - The Washburn Ichabods were picked sixth in the 2004 MIAA Coaches Poll that was announced this afternoon at the MIAA Football Media Day in Kansas City at Arrowhead Stadium. The Ichabods finished the 2003 season 5-6 overall and 3-6 in conference play. The Ichabods return 15 starters from last season's squad and will open the season on Aug. 28 against Colorado School of Mines at 1 p.m.
